How to care for linen knitwear

Linen is a long-lasting and strong material. All garments need just some extra care and your love. If you want to make the most of your linen knitwear, here are some basic rules you should follow.

Washing

We recommend to hand-wash in lukewarm water (30ºC or 86ºF) and add your choice of mild detergent. Gently press through the fibers and let it soak for about 10 minutes. Then swish the item around. Don’t wring, twist or scrub as it can stretch the garment. Drain the soapy water and rinse repeatedly until the soapy residue is all gone. Press the garment rather than twist to release excess water.

Drying

Let your garment dry on a flat surface after washing, preferably on a towel. By drying them flat you ensure that the pieces will keep their shape. By hanging them dry they might stretch and loose their form. Do not tumble dry, it will shrink the pieces.

Storing

Natural fibers like linen need to breathe, so it’s best to store them in cool, dry, well-ventilated areas and away from direct sunlight. Avoid hanging them on hangers as it it might stretch the garment causing it loosing its shape.

Linen becomes softer the more often it is washed.

But excess washing is bad for your clothes and for the environment – you’d be surprised at how much wear you can get out of your knits before they truly need to be washed, especially when you can spot-clean small areas with a cloth and some detergent.

Keep in mind

Natural materials like linen will wrinkle, crumple, and crease, you just have to accept it. We would suggest to use a steamer when needed.
